Tonne (with an 'ne') vs Ton
Spelling matters! "Tonne" (with an e) specifically refers to the Metric Ton ($1,000\text{ kg}$). "Ton" (without the e) usually refers to the US Short Ton ($2,000\text{ lbs}$) in American contexts.
Shipping Container Payload Limits
A standard 20ft ocean container has a max cargo gross capacity of 28 Metric Tonnes (~61,700 lbs). Always specify if your invoice or bill of lading is in Metric Tonnes or US Short Tons to prevent container overweight penalties.
